Ed Polley was an active SCCA competitor between 1967 and 1974.
Competing in more than 30 events, he won several driving big-bore ‘A’
production while establishing a record of high-place finishes. In 1971
and 1973, Polley also raced in sprint car competition, winning nine of
the 33 races entered. In 1974, he became associated with professional
Formula 5000 teams in the capacity of test and development driver for
both the Lola T330 and T332. As a result of his test driving, at which
he was near equal in time and speed to several current Formula 5000
series competitors, Peter Clarke Racing of Australia backed Polley for
the 1975 Tasman series.
