Born November 18, 1946
Joining SCCA early in 1971, he was campaigning an MGA by April of
that year and in the following season had earned his national license,
winning four out of five races he entered in Formula A. At the American
Road Race of Champions, he qualified third for the F/A contest and
finished in sixth place. In 1973, Bighouse, who is the assistant parts
manager at Jaguar Cleveland, entered only the Watkins Glen pro
Formula 5000 race, finishing 14th. He also set a course record in
National competition that year and won his regional championship in
the big formula class. With that one “taste” of professional racing,
Roger devoted his full attention to the Formula 5000 series in 1974.
Driving a Chevron B24(ex-Peter Gethin), he entered all but one event
and recorded four finishes, two in seventh place his best. Last year
(1975), Bighouse again campaigned a Chevron and tied for 26th in the
final 75 Formula 5000 standings, a ninth-place at Mosport Park giving
him two championship points.
