My Formula 5000
In numerous cases, Jon Woodner’s racing record reads “1st,”
although he has yet to attain that mark in Formula 5000
Championship competition. A disappointing 1975 season behind the
wheel of Interscope’s Lola T332 and Talon MRIA earned Jon I5th in
the final standings after entering the entire nine-race schedule. His
best finish was an impressive fifth at the Pocono season opener. His
only other point-earning finish was an eight in the season finale,
Riverside. He started every race in the series last year(1975),
driving a Talon MRl, and recorded three finishes, all worth points
toward his 12th-place in the year-end standings. For 1976,
Woodner will campaign a Lola T332 entered by Harry Stiller Racing.
In 1974, Woodner captured the Northern Pacific Division’s F
production championship by winning six National races in a MG
Midget for a perfect score of 54 points. He also campaigned a D
production Jensen Healey to third in divisional points and out of
eight races he started in the 1973 L&M Championship series his
three finishes gave him enough points to place ninth in the final
standings. In 1972, Woodner was first in F production in the
Northern Pacific Division, first at the Laguna Seca pro Super Vee.
Race and first in F production at the American Road Race of
Champions, which was his first National Champion ship crown in five
years of trying. Woodner now holds four Northern Pacific Division F
production titles, from 1968 and 1969 in addition to ‘72 and ‘73, and
the 1970 E production divisional championship. Road racing since
1966, Woodner also has experience in large and small sedans and
formula cars.
