My Formula 5000
Ed Felter arrived on L&M’s Formula 5000 scene at the first race
(Riverside) in 1971, soon after receiving his SCCA National Competitor’
s License, and immediately proved to be an able competitor. The Long
Beach policeman began his racing career in an A-sports racing King
Cobra in early 1970, winning the Cal Club regional class
championship.  At the 1971 L&M series opener, he placed ninth, his
best finish of the season. In the 1972 series, Felter campaigned a Lola
T191 in four events with a 10th at Watkins Glen as his best placing. He
also competed in several 1972 Canadian-American Challenge Cup
events, driving his Blue Magic McLaren M8E to seventh at
Donnybrooke.
