My Formula 5000
Bob Fischetti began his racing career in 1958 with go karts. He was
the New York state champion for four years, compiling approximately
250 victories. In 1966, he qualified for his SCCA National license and
for the rest of that year and through 1967 drove a Corvair Stinger in
production racing. In 1970, Fischetti campaigned a Surtees TS5A in
National Championship events finishing third at the American Road
Race of Champions. The next season, he went into professional
racing, competing in the Formula 5000 series and was the only driver
to finish all the events. 1972 was marred by an accident and financial
trouble and since that time Fischetti has been involved with the design,
fabrication and testing of his FA 101 Formula 5000 car. The project
was completed in time for the final race of the 1973 L&M
Championship race where he finished 10th. A master mechanic, he
received his training at Delhanty Technical Institute in New York. He
has worked for Bartz Engineering, James Garner/AIR Racing and
helped build the Ti22 Can-Am car.
