Al Lader devoted most of his road racing time to SCCA’s Formula 5000
series last year(1972) in a McLaren M18-Chevy. He finished all four
races he entered, earning points from a second at Edmonton which
put him 13th in the year-end points. He began the season in the
professional Formula B series, winning the opening round at Laguna
Seca, his 20 winning points good for eighth place in the year-end
standings. The corporate president of Pacific Inc., designers and
manufacturers of motorcycle accessories, started racing in 1969 in an
MG. In 1964 Lader campaigned a Porsche Carrera Speedster and in
1966 raced a Bourgeault sports/racing car to the G modified national
championship at the American Road Race of Champions. In his first full
year of formula car competition, 1970, he placed second in the
Formula B Championship series standings.
